ELKHART, IN : Granger man dies in crash at Old U.S. 33 and County Road 3 near Elkhart on Monday, 20th January, 2020
A 66-year-old Granger man died in a three-vehicle crash Monday night on Old U.S. Highway 33 near County Road 3.
The person killed in the crash was identified by Elkhart County Sheriff's Office as John A. Levy, 66, of Granger.
Investigators said a car driven east on U.S. 33 driven by Levy was in front of a Jeep driven by a 22-year-old Elkhart man about 6:15 p.m. Monday. Investigators said the Jeep struck the back of Levy's car as Levy began to slow down to stop. The impact reportedly pushed Levy's car into the westbound lane of U.S. 33 where it collided with a westbound pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old Elkhart woman.
Police said the crash was nearly a head-on collision. Levy was taken to Elkhart General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep was treated at the scene for a head cut, police said.
