WAXAHACHIE, TX : A two-vehicle accident on Monday, June 26, 2017

A driver of a semi-truck was transported to a local hospital after a two-vehicle accident on Monday afternoon.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 2:41 p.m. to the 3500 block of N. U.S. Highway 287 in Waxahachie, near J and K Excavation.
“Preliminary investigation shows that a 2010 white Kenworth truck tractor towing a 2016 white Clement semi-trailer was in the right lane preparing to turn right into a private drive. A 2014 white Freightliner truck tractor towing a 2005 Galyean semi-trailer was coming up behind the first CMV when, for as yet undetermined reason, the Freightliner truck tractor struck the rear of the Clement Semi-trailer causing the Kenworth truck tractor and semi-trailer to be pushed into the ditch on the right side of the roadway,” Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Sgt. Sara Warren said. “The Freightliner truck tractor and semi-trailer came to rest in the roadway. Both semi-trailers were empty and no hazardous material was released. The roadway was temporarily closed to remove vehicles then re-opened.”
Warren said the driver of the Kenworth, Tool, Texas resident, Otis Ware, 60, was transported by ambulance to Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Duncanville with unknown injuries. The driver of the Freightliner, Elkhart resident Ginger Mims, 40, was not injured.
Emergency Services District 6 Lt. Dick Brillhart said firefighters arrived on scene and found both drivers out of their vehicles.
“The accident was at J and K Excavation. What it was is that one 18-wheeler ran into the back of another one. Apparently one was trying to enter the shop here at J and K and another came in behind him and hit him,” Brillhart said. “There was severe damage to one of the trucks involved. The cab of the truck that hit the other truck was badly damaged”
Brillhart stated that the accident temporally closed both lanes of traffic on U.S. Highway 287. Emergency crews were able to reopen one of the lanes of traffic while firefighters assisted with traffic control.
Neither one of the drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.
Providing assistance on the call to ESD 6 were members of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and medical personnel with AMR. The accident remains under investigation by troopers with DPS.
