Bristol, VA: Six people injured in Benhams Road crash on Wednesday, August 5th 2015
Six people were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a head-on crash involving two vehicles.Emergency personnel from several agencies were called just after 3 p.m. to the crash with multiple injuries in the 20000 block of Benhams Road just north of Goose Creek Road in Washington County, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.A 1993 Honda Accord was traveling north when it crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Ford Escape, which was traveling south, Geller said.The driver of the Honda, Mia N. Hawkins, 32, of Bristol, Tennessee, was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Bristol Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, according to the VSP. The helicopter landed in a nearby field.Hawkins’ two daughters, 12 and 9 years old, were also transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, Geller said in a news release.The driver of the Escape, Ashley Blaylock, 34, of Bristol, Virginia, was also transported to the hospital, as were her son and daughter, 10 and 16 years old.All six sustained serious injuries, Geller said, and all were wearing seat belts. Local ambulance services transported five of the patients.The cause of the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, Geller said. The road was reopened at 4:30 p.m.
