Driver reportedly falls asleep, triggers crash in
On Tuesday at 12:43 p.m., three semi trucks collided at the traffic light near County Line Rd. on the U.S. Hwy 84 Bypass. All three were travelling in the east bound side.
The accident happened when the driver of the rear semi, carrying frozen chicken, reportedly fell asleep and slammed into the back of the middle semi stopped at the light. The middle semi, carry heavy equipment, was pushed into the front semi, which was empty.
Capt. Steve Jones of the Thomasville Sheriff’s Office said, “The force was so hard that the frozen chicken the third semi was carrying came through the refrigerated back, jamming into the cab of the truck.”
The Department of Agriculture was contacted to help with the frozen chicken. The Thomasville Fire/Rescue Department, Georgia State Patrol and the Thomasville Sheriff’s Office were also on the scene.
The driver of the third semi truck was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment. His truck was totaled.The Georgia State Patrol is investigating to determine if he has a medical condition that caused him to fall asleep.
