MORONGO VALLEY, CA : Driver under influence dies in crash on Tuesday, December 27th 2016
A woman believed to be driving with alcohol and drugs in her system died after a collision with a family in a Jeep Tuesday night on Twentynine Palms Highway.
According to the CHP, the woman, whose name has not been released, was driving a red Toyota Corolla east on Twentynine Palms Highway and ran into a black Toyota at Park Avenue around 8:50 p.m.
The driver of the red Corolla allegedly drove away from the scene of the crash without exchanging information with the other driver.
She continued eastbound on the highway, made a right turn onto North Star Trail, then, for unknown reasons, made a U-turn and drove back northbound on North Star Trail toward the highway, CHP Officer Simon Miller said via email.
Without yielding to oncoming traffic, the woman in the red Toyota pulled back onto the highway. There, the front of a Jeep Commander going about 60 mph eastbound in the fast lane ran into the driver’s side of the Toyota, according to Miller.
The woman driving the Jeep, her male passenger and a toddler who was also inside were not hurt.
The driver of the Toyota suffered what were thought at the time to be moderate injuries, according to the CHP. She was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where she later died.
