Sacramento, CA : 11 hurt in Golden Gate Bridge crash involving casino bus on Wednesday, July 5, 2017
At least 11 people suffered minor injuries Wednesday when a casino bus collided with two vehicles on the Golden Gate Bridge, a chain-reaction crash that shut down two southbound lanes of the span for nearly an hour, officials said. The collision was reported about 12:42 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the bridge near its south anchorage, according to preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck occurred when a car came to a stop at the toll plaza and was hit from behind by another vehicle before the bus rear-ended both vehicles, said Officer Andrew Barclay, a CHP spokesman.
An ambulance was initially requested for two passengers on the bus, both in their 80s, according to Barclay. Eleven people were eventually transported to a hospital with minor injuries, eight from the bus and three from one of the cars involved in the crash, Barclay said.
All lanes were clear by 1:33 p.m., he said.
The bus, a Storer 45 coach carrying 49 people, was returning to San Francisco from the Graton Casino in Rohnert Park, the CHP reported.
