Atascosa County, TX: Accident involving three semi-trucks sends two to SAMMC on Wednesday, July 29th 2015

Two men were airlifted to a local hospital after three semi-trucks were involved in a chain reaction of rear-endings Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 37 in Atascosa County.Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jason Reyes said two semi-trucks and a crane truck were traveling behind one another southbound on Interstate 37 at mile marker 88 when the crane truck rear ended the middle truck.The middle semi-truck that was hit rear-ended the front tractor-truck which veered off the roadway, crashed and caught fire, Reyes said.The two semi-truck drivers were airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center in serious condition, authorities said, confirming there was only one person in each truck.Investigators are determining what caused the initial rear-ending.All Northbound lanes are open, but all southbound lanes are still closed. Officials announced via twitter they estimate the lanes opening at about 3 a.m. Thursday.Officials said they could not estimate how long the road would be blocked.
