Greenville, NC : Moped driver killed in crash on Worthington Road on Tuesday morning, September 13, 2016

An Ayden area man died this morning after his moped hit the rear of a pickup truck waiting to turn into a local restaurant, according to a Winterville Police Department news release.
David Wilbert Roland, 68, no address available, was pronounced dead on the scene, the release said.
The accident happened at 6.44 a.m. Officers believe dense fog may have contributed to the accident, the release said.
A pickup truck traveling east on Worthington Road had stopped to make a left turn into the parking lot of Cubbies restaurant. It appears Roland was traveling east on Worthington Road and failed to reduce speed, striking the rear of the pickup truck. The release said officers saw no sign of skid marks leading up to collision. It does not appear alcohol was involved in the incident.
Winterville Fire and EMS responded and aided Roland but was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver, who police did not identify, was uninjured.
