A 58-year-old woman driving the wrong-way on Interstate 4 in Central Florida died Wednesday morning after a head-on crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The FHP said Gloria Marcial, of Polk City, died in the crash, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-4 eastbound near Fairbanks Avenue.

A 73-year-old Altamonte Springs man driving a pickup truck was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, the FHP said.

It's not known why Marcial was driving the wrong way, troopers said.

Prior to the head-on crash, Marcial got onto I-4 east and started driving her Chevrolet HHR west, the FHP said. It's not known where she entered the interstate, troopers said.

Cars darted out of the way of her SUV, striking a vehicle near State Road 436, troopers said. Another car swerved to avoid the SUV and struck a guardrail near Maitland Boulevard, according to the FHP. It's not know if the drivers were injured.

Marcial then crashed into the pickup truck, troopers said.

Marcial and the pickup driver were wearing seat belts, according to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
