Plant City, FL : Woman died and two children critically injured in a car crash on Thursday evening, Oct 8, 2015

A woman was killed and two children critically injured in a car crash Thursday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Brian A. Defreitas, 46, of Lakeland was driving a Dodge sedan in the inside lane of State Road 60 at about 7:45 p.m. In front of him was a Chevrolet pickup truck.

Defreitas tried to pass the truck, FHP authorities said, but the front left of his sedan hit the rear right of the pickup.

The pickup traveled into the grass median and overturned, authorities said, ejecting a 45-year-old woman from Plant City.

She and two children, ages 8 and 10, were taken to Tampa General Hospital. The woman, who had not been wearing a seatbelt, died.

Defreitas had minor injuries, authorities said.
