GREENE COUNTY, IN : Two-car crash near Bloomington kills 3, injures 2 on Sunday, November 13th 2016

Three people have died after an early morning crash near Bloomington.

According to a release, Indiana State Police officers at the Bloomington Post were dispatched on a report of a car crash involving a deer on I-69 early Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, officers found a large amount of debris in the road, a passenger car, and an inverted pickup truck near the embankment on the west side of the interstate.

Officials say further investigation revealed 46-year-old David Rinehart of Newburg was traveling southbound on I-69 in a Honda Civic when he struck a deer. Rinehart pulled onto the outside shoulder and stopped.

19-year-old Mason Hartkey of Jasper was traveling southbound on I-69 approaching Rinehart's location in a Chevrolet pickup truck when he left the southbound lane and entered the outside shoulder, for unknown reasons, striking Rinehart's parked car.

David Rinehart, 74-year-old Ruth Rinehart and 17-year-old Sophie Rinehart, all from Newburgh, died as a result of the crash.

A fourth passenger in the Honda, 18-year-old Josie Rinehart, suffered cuts and abrasions and was transported to the hospital to be treated.

Hartkey was also transported to the hospital to be treated for a fractured arm.

The investigation is ongoing.
