A Cayuga County man suffered serious injuries early Tuesday in a one-vehicle crash in Manchester, Ontario County.

Elliott J. Taylor, 26, of Union Springs, was partly thrown from his Jeep after striking a tree by Route 96 and Brown Road just before 2 a.m., according to Ontario County sheriff's deputies. The front of the Jeep sustained major damage and the tree traveled well into the passenger side of the vehicle.

Speed was a factor in the crash, deputies said.

Taylor, who was not wearing a seat belt, was unpinned by Clifton Springs firefighters. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in guarded condition Wednesday morning.

Taylor was ticketed for not wearing a seat belt and speed unreasonable. He is expected to answer the charges in Manchester Town Court at a later date.
