A tractor-trailer collided with a pickup truck early Thursday morning killing one man and seriously injuring another, according to a statement by Green Brook Police Chief G. Christopher Kurz.
At about 3:29 a.m. Green Brook Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Route 22 East and Cramer Avenue for a collision between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck resulting in the death of the pickup truck driver and serious injuries to a bystander, Kurz said.
A 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Anthony Mascia, 18, of Bridgewater, was stopped for a red light at the intersection when it was struck in the rear by a 2015 Mack tractor-trailer driven by Andrew Donaldson of El Mirage, Ariz., Kurz said.
The pickup truck burst into flames with the impact of the tractor-trailer, Kurz said.
A bystander who attempted to pull Mascia from the burning pickup was injured and taken by NorthSTAR air medical services to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, Kurz said.
All eastbound lanes of Route 22 were closed near Cramer Avenue, Green Brook police said via Twitter just before 6:30 a.m. Police reported that all lanes of the highway were reopened by 11:16 a.m.
Green Brook Police were assisted by the Green Brook Fire Department, Green Brook Emergency Medical Services, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team, New Jersey State Police Emergency Management, the New Jersey State Police Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit and the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation Incident Management Response Team, Kurz said.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, Kurz said. No information is yet available on whether any summonses were issued.
