Motorcyclist dies in crash on Raton New Mexico

An afternoon motorcycle accident on U.S. 64 between Cimarron and Raton killed a 56-year-old Las Vegas, N.M. man earlier this month.
New Mexico State Police District 2 Lt. Steve Mulkey stated that the accident took place Nov. 7 at approximately 5 p.m along U.S. 64 at mile marker 334. Mulkey reported that Blue Freedom was driving alone on a newer model Kawasaki motorcycle heading northeast near the ghost town of Colfax.He was driving at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a corner,” Mulkey said.Freedom hit two roadside reflector poles. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Colfax County Medical Examiner, Mulkey reported.Freedom reportedly was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The New Mexico State Police was assisted by the Colfax County Fire Department and New Mexico Game and Fish officials. The road remained open during the incident.Police are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
