Decatur, IL : Mount Zion man killed in single-vehicle crash on Thursday, January, 18th 2018
The 53-year-old Mount Zion man who died Thursday after the car he was driving struck a concrete bridge support on the Lakeshore Drive has been identified as Todd W. Vance, Macon County Coroner Michael Day said.
Vance suffered a fatal neck fracture and "severe internal trauma" to his torso, Day said in a statement. Routine toxicology and an inquest are pending. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:40 p.m.
Sgt. Tony Tertocha of the Decatur Police Department said in a statement the crash happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Initial investigation indicated the man was driving south and east around the curve of the Lakeshore Drive ramp and lost control of the car, which struck the bridge support under the U.S. 51 bridge.
A 45-year-old Decatur female passenger was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, Tertocha said.
The Fatal Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash. Traffic was diverted north on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from westbound Lakeshore Drive, and the ramp to Lakeshore Drive from South Main Street was closed for four hours.
