Everett, WA : Two injured in crash on I-5 in Everett on Sunday night, November 2, 2014
A Washington State Patrol car was struck by a Honda Civic Sunday night as the trooper was attempting to contact a teenager seen walking on the shoulder of the freeway.
A WSP spokesperson said the trooper was possibly slowing down in the right lane to pull over, when the Civic collided from behind. This happened at mile post 188 just south of the Everett Mall.
The trooper, a 28-year-old woman from Mill Creek, suffered back pain and was released from Providence Hospital later Sunday night. The driver of the Honda Civic, a 50-year-old man from Everett, was taken to the hospital out of precaution, according to WSP.
The teenager was not injured and was later picked up to return to the halfway house where he was staying.
Traffic northbound on I-5 was backed up for miles as investigators blocked one lane to handle the accident.
Trooper Mark Francis with Washington State Patrol said this was a warning for all drivers. “We're getting into fall, we're getting into winter driving. Two things you can do: increase your following distance and reduce your speed to avoid these rear end collisions.”
