Harrisville Township, OH : Spencer man injured after a one-vehicle crash Monday evening on state Route 83 in Medina County on Monday evening, April 25, 2016
A Spencer man was taken to Akron City Hospital following a one-vehicle crash Monday evening on state Route 83 in Harrisville Township, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Trooper Daniel Harrison said Richard Sandy, 65, of Spencer, was traveling north at 5:06 p.m. on Route 83 in his 2011 Chevrolet pickup when he traveled off the right side of the road, rode a ditch for a stretch and then crashed into a telephone pole.
Sandy, who was not wearing a seat belt, was trapped inside his pickup when first-responders arrived, Harrison said.
“The original report was that he was unresponsive” when they cut Sandy out of the car, the trooper said.
Sandy was transported to Lodi Community Hospital and then flown to Akron City Hospital, Harrison said.
Sandy’s condition was not available Monday night.
The crash downed telephone wires. The road was closed for at least an hour and may have affected telephone service in the area, Harrison said.
Frontier was working on repairing the damage, he added.
Besides the patrol, Lodi Fire and EMS and Medina County sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash.
