FLAGLER, FL : A 19-year-old woman was killed in a crash on Saturday, May 27, 2017
A 19-year-old woman was killed in a crash Saturday morning on I-95 in Flagler County.
Jirawadee M. Mattenhouse of Flagler Beach was driving south on I-95 near mile marker 288 in a 1998 Lexus ES 300 Saturday around 12:20 a.m. when the car entered the inside emergency lane. The left rear side of the car hit the guardrail, hitting the guardrail again with the front left side of the car.
The car then caromed into the southbound lanes of I-95, facing southeast within the center lane. A southbound 2015 Acura TLX failed to see the Lexus stopped in the center lane and struck the rear of the Lexus, rotating Mattenhouse's car counterclockwise until it struck inside guardrail. The Lexus finally came to rest in the emergency lane.
Mattenhouse was flows to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona. The driver of Acura was taken by ground transport to the same hospital with minor injuries. It is not known why Mattenhouse's car initially left the lane of travel. Charges are pending in the fatal crash.
