Norfolk, VA : Woman dead in York County crash on Thursday, December 22nd 2016

A pedestrian died after being hit by a van Thursday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya said the crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. Thursday on Hampton Highway, north of Long Green Boulevard.

A 2010 Ford Econoline van was traveling northbound on Hampton Highway, when Yorktown resident Rachel Marie Coats, 21, ran into the path of the van, according to a press release.

Neither alcohol nor speed played a factor, the release said. No charges were placed upon the driver of the vehicle.
