A box truck driver who admitted to causing the crash that killed a Maine middle school teacher will serve at least six years in jail.
WGME-TV reports Joshua McNally was sentenced to 17 years Monday, with six years of that sentence served in prison. McNally pleaded guilty to manslaughter and causing a death while his license was suspended. Following his release from prison, McNally will serve the rest of his sentence on probation.
Prosecutors say McNally was driving a produce truck in 2016 when he crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 302 and struck a vehicle driven by Adam Perron. The 29-year-old Lakes Region Middle School teacher died instantly.
Authorities say McNally had a suspended license at the time of the crash and shouldn’t have been behind the wheel.
