Huntsville, AL : 10-year-old remains hospitalized after accident on Thursday night, July 21, 2016

A 10-year-old girl injured Thursday night when she was struck by a car as she tried to cross Veterans Drive remains hospitalized, officials said.

Officials with Huntsville Hospital said today the child, Abigail Hollie, is in the medical center’s pediatric intensive care unit in fair condition.

Florence police Sgt. Chris Ticer said the accident, which was reported at 4:31 p.m., occurred near the intersection of Veterans Drive and Broadway Street.

He said he talked to the child’s grandfather, who said she was improving.

Ticer said the child and her father were going west, walking on the south side of Veterans Drive. He said the car, a 2013 Dodge Avenger, was going west and was in the inside lane of Veterans Drive.

Police said according to witnesses, the child pulled away from her father and tried to run across the street.

Ticer said the driver of the car, Danielle Watson, 20, of Rogersville, was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation by the Florence Police Traffic Division.
