Bucks County, PA : Driver Samuel B. Myers, 56, died after a two-vehicle crash in Warrington Township on Sunday morning, Oct 11, 2015
A York man is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Warrington Township on Sunday morning, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Driver Samuel B. Myers, 56, of York, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just after 7:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of York Road, police said.
The driver of the second vehicle, Gladys Mendez, 20, of York, who was confined to her vehicle, was taken to York Hospital by helicopter, police said. A York Hospital spokeswoman said Sunday afternoon Mendez was a no-information patient there.
State Police Cpl. Brian Torkar said that just before the crash, Mendez was northbound on York Road in a red Jeep Patriot, while Myers was southbound in a silver Toyota Corolla.
As she (Mendez) was going north, she crossed over the center line and into southbound lane," Torkar said. "Myers, in an apparent attempt to avoid the collision, drove onto the berm."
But Mendez also drove onto the berm and struck Myers' car head-on, Torkar said.
Mendez's vehicle rolled over just after the crash, stopping just north of the impact of the two vehicles, police said. Myers' car stopped on top of the southbound guide rail, police said.
Emergency crews removed a door of the Jeep to free Mendez, then took her to a nearby landing zone to be loaded onto a helicopter, police said.
An autopsy to help determine Myers' cause of death is scheduled for Monday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to the York County Coroner's Office.
