Eugene, OR : Motorcyclist, 19, from Wyoming dies in crash near Florence on Wednesday October 26 2016

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon near Florence when the motorcycle struck a vehicle on Highway 101.

The crash occurred at 2 p.m. near milepost 185, just north of Florence. According to Oregon State Police, a 1984 Honda motorcycle driven by 19-year-old Ryan W. Petersmann of Laramie, Wyo., was speeding northbound on the highway and using the center turn lane to pass other vehicles before the crash. A 2012 Hyundai sedan driven by Blaine L. Kahle, 28, of Florence was westbound on Sutton Lake Road when it stopped and turned onto Highway 101, police said.

The motorcycle struck the car as the car turned onto the highway, ejecting the motorcyclist, police said.

Kahle was not injured.

Witnesses told police the motorcycle did not have a headlight and had been traveling at a high rate of speed. Rain may have caused limited visibility at the time of the crash.
