2 killed after car crashes into home Alcoa Tennessee

Two people died early Wednesday morning when their truck crashed into a home in North Knoxville.The truck crashed into the home of Dennis and Shirley Hoffman in the 2000 block of Sanderson Road around 1:30 a.m."It felt like an earthquake," said Hoffman. "From the sound and the way that the house shook, I knew it was bad.""It's clear to see that there is a long stretch here and it appears there was a high rate of speed," said Captain D.J. Corcoran with the Knoxville Fire Department.The vehicle became partially imbedded in the home's living room.Two residents in the home were asleep in an opposite section of the house when the crash occurred. Knoxville fire officials say they were not injured.Firefighters say the truck's gas tank ruptured, causing the truck and parts of the house exterior to catch fire.The victims have not been identified at this time.The investigation is ongoing.Neighbors tell 6 News they have long feared something like this would happen, because of the number of people who speed through the neighborhood."I've had people come through this road flying down this road like it's a drag strip," said neighbor Mike Hirsch.Hirsch has lived down the street for the last five years. He says he sees cars speed through almost daily."I seen them hit the pole over here before," said Hirsch. "We've had to call the cops up there a few times.""This is a problem we've been putting up with for years and thinking was going to happen and it finally happened," said Hoffman.Hoffman says he has been through six mailboxes and one fence, each taken out by drivers going too fast and losing control. They've tried for years getting a bigger guardrail installed, but to no avail.Now the Hoffmans have to decide whether it's worth the risk to stay, or cut their losses and go.
