TOLEDO, OH : One dead, another presumed dead, in grain elevator accident at Andersons Grain Elevators on Edwin Drive in Toledo on Friday, 19th July 2019

Two people are dead following an accident at Andersons Grain Elevators on Edwin Drive in Toledo, according to the company.Crews arrived on scene responding to a report of two people trapped in the grain elevator just after 9 AM Friday morning. Rescue crews worked for about an hour and a half to extricate the victims before confirming the first death.

The bodies were recovered at 6:06 p.m. and 6:34 p.m. There were taken to the Lucas County Coroner.

Toledo Fire and Rescue said the retrieval efforts were made more difficult because of the 11 million pounds of grain that continued to cave in, as well as the 120 degree temperatures inside the storage tank.

They also thanked the Bowling Green and Pemberville Fire Departments, as well as the Countryline Coop for providing personnel and specialized equipment for the recovery efforts.
