A 71-year-old Fairhaven motorcyclist was injured Friday morning on the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge when the motorcycle he was riding struck the gate on the Fairhaven side of the bridge.
The motorcycle was traveling west on the bridge when the accident occurred. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and late Friday afternoon his condition was not known.
The gate was down at the time of the accident. The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle, a 1999 Harley Davidson, authorities said.
The accident happened at 11:18 a.m. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Local police, as well as fire department and rescue personnel from Fairhaven and New Bedford, responded to the scene.
