KULA, HI : Bicyclist killed in crash on Kekaulike Avenue on Tuesday, 24th December, 2019

A bicyclist was killed in a collision with a pickup truck Tuesday on Kekaulike Avenue in Kula, police said.

The bicyclist was identified as Andrew Janssen, 64, of Kula, a well-known chiropractor.

Police said the crash occurred at 11:16 a.m. Christmas Eve as the 2016 Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling south on the highway and attempting to turn left onto Hapapa Road. A 56-year-old Kula man driving the truck failed to observe the bicyclist, who was heading downhill in the opposite direction in a bicycle lane, police said.

While turning left onto Hapapa Road, the truck driver collided into the bicyclist, who was ejected from his bicycle onto the roadway, police said.
