Charlotte County, FL : Motorcycle rider seriously injured in Sunday on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte on Sunday, February 14, 2016
A motorcycle rider was seriously injured in crash Sunday on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol:
At 10:40 a.m. Robert Gurreri, 74, of Punta Gorda was riding a 2015 Indian motorcycle south on U.S. 41 in the right lane approaching the intersection with Cochran Boulevard.
Vesta Ferguson, 81, of Port Charlotte was stopped in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra in the eastbound turn lane of Cochran Boulevard at the intersection with U.S. 41 on a red light.
Ferguson did not see the motorcycle, which had the green light, and turned right on U.S. 41, into the path of the motorcycle.
The right side of Ferguson's car collided with the motorcycle. Gurreri was ejected from the bike, landing on the raised concrete median. The bike also struck a car that was stopped in the northbound turn lanes of U.S. 41.
Gurreri, who was wearing a helmet,was flown by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital. Ferguson was not injured.
She was charged with failure to yield the right of way to approaching traffic from a red turn signal.
