Charlotte, NC : 75-year-old Ralph Clark Black died in wreck in east Charlotte on Monday evening, May 23, 2016
Charlotte, North Carolina
The person killed in an east Charlotte crash Monday evening has been identified as 75-year-old Ralph Clark Black, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.
The wreck, involving two vehicles and three people, happened just after 7 p.m. on Gainesborough Road off Shamrock Drive.
Police say a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Black, sideswiped a 2005 Ford F-150, which was pulling a lawn equipment trailer.
The Chevrolet continued traveling into oncoming lanes before driving off the road and striking a utility pole. The Chevrolet then struck a storage building. Medic pronounced Black dead on scene.
The driver and passenger in the Ford were not injured, police say.
“I thought the truck may have lost an axle or blown a tire but as I turned onto my street I saw the burgundy SUV in the fence and at the back of someone’s home,” said neighbor Shawneequa Randle.
Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors. The crash remains under investigation.
