Monessen, PA : Broken-down vehicle in Squirrel Hill Tunnel on Monday, November, 6th 2017
Multiple incidents in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill Tunnel brought outbound traffic on the Parkway East to a standstill Tuesday afternoon, PennDOT reported.
A crash was reported at 2:42 p.m., according to PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan. He could not provide further details.
As crews worked to clear the tunnel of the wreckage, another vehicle broke down in the tunnel, Cowan said.
All vehicles were removed by 3:10 p.m., Cowan said.
Cowan advised motorists to expect residual delays on the Parkway East and consider alternate routes.
“Anytime you put weather and crashes together on any of the interstates in rush hour, you're talking about significant delays,” Cowan said.
