Van Nuys, CA : Boy and his grandmother killed in violent wrong-way crash in Van Nuys on Wednesday, 5th July 2023

The two victims of a horrific wrong-way crash in Van Nuys have been identified as a grandmother and her 5-year-old grandson from Los Angeles.

The crash happened Thursday night in the 6400 block of Woodley Avenue, near Victory Boulevard.

Aura de la Cruz Calderon de Tobar, 74, and Yeshua Elijah Cordova Tobar were killed when the driver of a white Honda Accord crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit the gray Honda Civic carrying the woman and boy, according to officials.

Investigators say the suspect, who has not been identified, was allegedly driving under the influence.

"I can't see my life without him," said Anna Calderon, the mother of the boy and the woman's daughter. She spoke with Eyewitness News on Wednesday and described seeing her son lying on the street.

She said the family was on their way to dinner. The boy was in the car with his grandmother, who was visiting from El Salvador, along with his stepsister and her boyfriend when the suspect struck their vehicle. The other victims were also injured.
