Carbondale, IL : Child killed in Pulaski County crash on Wednesday, February 22, 2017

A crash on Interstate 57 in Pulaski County on Wednesday left a 2-year-old dead, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.

The release states that at about 6:58 p.m. near mile marker 18.5, a Freightliner semitrailer driven by Isidro Garcia Purcella, 46, of Mercedes, Texas, was traveling north and crashed into the rear of a 2007 Dodge van driven by Shatroy Leroya Williams, 31, of Marion.

Williams and her 2-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital, where the child died from injuries sustained from the crash. Williams had non-life-threatening injuries. Purcella was not injured.

The investigation into the crash continues.
