Lakeland,FL : Semi driver hospitalized following collision with horse on April, Wednesday 3rd 2018
A collision involving two tractor-trailers and a horse left one driver with serious injuries, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The crash occurred at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday on Commonwealth Avenue (State Road 33), just north of Green Pond Road, the PCSO said, when both trucks, traveling in opposite directions, hit the horse that was standing in the middle of the road.
Christopher Sears, 31, from Balm, was traveling south with a load of sand. Sears was trapped in the truck after it flipped and ended upside down in the west side ditch. He is at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center in stable condition, according to reports.
Robert Billings, 55, of Winter Haven was hauling corn in the northbound lane. The Sheriff’s Office said Billings was able to decelerate to the side of the road and was not injured.
