Holton ,KS : Two people hospitalized after semitrailer Crash along US highway 75 on Monday ,April 27 2015

One person was hospitalized with unknown injuries Monday morning after an accident involving a car and semitrailer a mile north of Holton, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 7:43 a.m. on US-75 highway just north of Holton Community Hospital, 1110 Columbine Drive.

According to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, a 2008 Volvo semitractor pulling a tanker filled with a concrete additive was headed north from Holton when a southbound 1999 Ford Escort crossed the center line, striking the truck.

A passenger in the Escort, identified by the Kansas Highway Patrol as Ronnie L. Marn, 60, of Topeka, was listed as having a possible injury. Marn, who was wearing his seat belt, was taken by Jackson County Emergency Medical Service to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.

Another passenger in the Escort, Tyrone Mitchell, 39, of Omaha, Neb., was reported injured and also was taken by ambulance to Stormont-Vail. Mitchell was wearing his seat belt, the patrol said.

The Escort’s driver, Daryl E. Merryfield, 57, of Topeka, was reported uninjured in the accident. He was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

The semi’s driver, Michael J. Polzkill, 59, of Wellville, was reported uninjured. He was wearing his seat belt, the patrol said.

The Holton Police Department and the Holton Fire Department assisted on the scene.
