Fredericksburg,VI : Three die in Sunday accidents in Fredericksburg area on June, Sunday 4th 2017
A 53-year-old Mineral woman was killed Sunday after a motorcycle on which she was a passenger collided with a car in Spotsylvania County, police said.
Vickie S. Patton was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision, Sheriff’s Lt. C.A. Carey said. She was pronounced dead later in the day at a local hospital.
According to Carey, the incident took place about 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Hickory Ridge Road. The motorcycle and a silver sedan with two occupants in it somehow collided.
Carey said police had not fully determined Monday what caused the accident. A crash reconstruction team has taken measurements and examined evidence from the accident, and police will consult with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office soon to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
The man who was driving the motorcycle was also hospitalized, Carey said, but the extent of his injuries were not clear Monday. The occupants of the sedan were not injured.
Patton’s death was one of three fatal accidents in the Fredericksburg area Sunday. Earlier that day, another motorcyclist was killed on Interstate 95 when he ran off the roadway and struck a tractor–trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder.
Jonathan Thomas Powell, 28, of Aylett died at the scene. State police spokesman Les Tyler said the crash occurred at 3:55 a.m. just north of State Route 3 in Fredericksburg.
After Powell was ejected from his bike, the motorcycle spun into the southbound lanes of the interstate and was struck by several vehicles. No other injuries occurred as a result.
