A Newport woman died Saturday evening when the all terrain vehicle she was driving crashed into a tree in Chestnut Hill, Sheriff Bud McCoig reported.
The victim was identified as Donna Knisley Ortega, 50, of 1730 Wallace Street. A passenger, Marshall Allan Alford, was taken to Lakeway Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the 6:34 p.m. accident on Grapevine Hollow Road.
Deputy Brandon Bullins reported that Alford told him he and Ortega were going “really fast” when she lost control on a curve. The 2011 Kymco all terrain vehicle went down an embankment and struck a tree.
Paramedics with the Jefferson County Emergency Medical Service responded to the area of 2799 Grapevine Hollow Road.
Ortega was pronounced dead at Jefferson Memorial Hospital at 8:13 p.m.
