Elkhorn, NE : Richard Sake, 63, died and James O'Leary, 43, injured after a two-vehicle crash near near 220th Street and West Dodge Road on Tuesday, March 10, 2015
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office released names in a deadly crash in Elkhorn. Richard Sake, 63, has died and James O'Leary, 43, has been hospitalized.
The accident happened at Dodge Street and Skyline Drive just after 6:00 p.m.
According to Douglas County Sheriff's Department, Sake, the driver of a Toyota Camry, was traveling westbound on Dodge when his vehicle left the roadway and entered into oncoming eastbound traffic. Sake struck O'Leary who was driving a Mercury Mountaineer.
Deputies are still investigating why Sake crossed into oncoming traffic. An autopsy is scheduled for 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.
Family of O'Leary have been updating WOWT 6 News on his treatment in the hospital. A brother-in-law told said O'Leary is currently out of surgery. They had to remove his spleen, he has broken ribs, his liver is damaged, and his bowels were punctured. The family said doctor's are hoping the most recent surgeries have stopped internal bleeding.
Family said O'Leary is an elementary school band teacher in Fremont and a flight instructor at the Fremont Airport. He is also a husband and a father of two sons, ages 11 and 6.
