Ridgecrest, CA : Six injured in Thursday Highway 14 collision, one airlifted on Thursday, August 3, 2017
One person was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital and five others transported via ground ambulance to regional hospitals Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 14 just north of the Highway 178 west turnoff.
California Highway Patrol Officer Paul Vue said that a van carrying several people was heading northbound on Highway 14 and a paint truck was traveling southbound when for unknown reasons, they sideswiped one another.
The van, carrying a soccer team, sustained substantial damage and stopped on the northbound shoulder. The paint truck stopped on the southbound shoulder.
Kern County and China Lake Fire departments responded, along with Liberty Ambulance. Two of the injured subjects were transported to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, and other four to AVH.
Vue said that the person who was airlifted by a Mercy Air helicopter suffered moderate to major injuries.
The accident caused delays in traffic and was stopped while Mercy Air landed and loaded the patient. The driver of the paint truck was uninjured.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
