A person was killed and five others were seriously injured early Friday in a head-on collision on East Hampden Avenue after one car veered into oncoming traffic.
The driver of the silver car that caused the crash was thrown through the windshield of the vehicle and died, said Technician Eranda Piyasena, a spokesman for Denver police.
The driver, whose name and gender have not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car's passenger, also ejected, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Four people in the SUV that was struck in the 2:21 a.m. crash were also hurt, but their injuries were not life-threatening, according to Piyasena.
The silver car was eastbound on East Hampden Avenue at a high speed when, at a curve near Kennedy Golf Course, the driver lost control at South Galena Street and the vehicle ran into oncoming traffic, Piyasena said.
The car then crashed into the westbound SUV.
