Early morning crash killed one man in Melville
A man was killed and his passenger was injured in an early morning crash Friday on La. 105 north of Melville, State Police reported.
Jarvis Carey, 27, of Melville, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet car north on the highway at 5:20 a.m. when he lost control of the car while driving through a curve to the left, Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said in a release.
Carey’s car hit a fence post.
Carey, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office.
Joshua Horton, a passenger who also was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and sustained moderate injuries. Horton, also of Melville, was transported to a nearby hospital.
Investigators do not yet know whether alcohol was a factor. Toxicology samples were sent to the State Police Crime Lab in a case that remains under investigation.
