Chula Vista, CA : One person was killed after his car hits the tree at Rutgers Avenue on Saturday, 8th October, 2016

A passenger in a car driven by a suspected drunk driver in Chula Vista is dead, according to Chula Vista police.

Police said two cars were driving fast near Rutgers Avenue and East H Street around 12:30 a.m.

One driver lost control coming down a hill, skidded about 300 feet, hit the median, hit a tree, flew onto oncoming lanes before coming to rest on a sidewalk, police said.

The tree was uprooted and city crews had to dispose of the tree early Saturday morning.

Two drivers were arrested for DUI and police said they are looking at whether to charge them with vehicular manslaughter because of the possibility of street racing.
