Chanhassen, MN : Victoria resident dies in County Road 11 crash on Monday night, August 1, 2016
A Victoria resident died Monday night in a single-vehicle crash in Victoria, according to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.
According to news release, Austin Todd Simenson, 23, of Victoria, died from injuries sustained in the crash at about 7:22 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 11 (Victoria Drive) and Hackamore Drive in Victoria.
Sheriff’s deputies determined Simenson was driving southbound on County Road 11, just south of Hackamore Drive, when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the west ditch, according to the release. The vehicle overturned, ejecting Simenson before coming to rest on its side. Witnesses reported seeing Simenson’s vehicle swerving before leaving the roadway. The paved roadway was level, dry, and free of debris. Simenson was traveling alone and deputies do not believe he was wearing a seatbelt, the release said.
He was treated at the scene by Victoria Fire Department and a Ridgeview Ambulance crew. Ridgeview Ambulance transported Simenson to Two Twelve Medical Center in Chaska, then to Hennepin County Medical Center, where Simenson died at 10:35 p.m. from injuries sustained in the crash, according to reports.
There were no other people involved in the crash and no other property damaged, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Simenson was a 2012 graduate of Chanhassen High School and a member of the Storm hockey team.
His former coach Chris Wilson described Simenson as “a great competitor who loved his teammates.”
The Carver County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
