LYNNWOOD, WA : Driver killed in 2-car crash overnight in Lynnwood on Monday, October, 23rd 2017
One person was killed late Monday after crashing his car into another vehicle and then hitting a high-voltage transmission pole on Highway 99 in Lynnwood, the Washington State Patrol reports.
State troopers responded to the scene, on Highway 99 near 156th Street SW, at about 11:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious accident.
Two cars, a 2011 Chevy Equinox and a 1991 Honda Accord, were found crashed into utility poles. The driver of the Chevy was found dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver of the Chevy, a 29-year-old Lynnwood man, was headed south on Highway 99 when he crashed into the side of the Honda, which was also headed south.
The impact of the collision sent both cars careening into utility poles, killing the driver of the Chevy. The driver of the Honda, a 52-year-old Edmonds man, was unhurt.
It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol were involved. However, several witnesses said the causing driver was speeding before the crash happened. Both cars were totaled.
At least one lane of southbound Highway 99 near 156th Street SW is closed as crews with Snohomish County PUD work to repair the high-voltage transmission pole that was hit.
They say this kind of project usually takes about 10 to 12 hours of work, and because of their late start following the police investigation, the target time for reopening the lane is about noon.
