Waco,TX : Police identify 1 of 3 killed in fiery I-35 wrecks on Tuesday, July 11, 2017
Police have identified an Arlington truck driver was one of three people killed on northbound Interstate 35 in a series of crashes under the Valley Mills Drive overpass Tuesday afternoon. Officials are continuing work to identify the other two people killed in the crash.
Eugene Watts III, 31, was killed in the six-vehicle incident involving four tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles. Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said authorities have made a preliminary identification of the other two victims, who were in one of the passenger vehicles. Police are waiting on confirmation from a medical examiner and notification of family before releasing the other names, Swanton said.
Explosions and fires were reported after the wrecks at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, and police said congestion on the interstate caused by earlier crashes may have led to congestion that contributed to the deadly incident.
Witnesses said two of the tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles appeared to catch fire immediately after the initial impact.
