Authorities say a child was killed and her mother injured in a vehicle crash in Centralia.

The crash took place Monday afternoon when a car driven by the woman slammed into a parked pickup truck.

Police say the woman was driving on a two-lane road, crossed the center line and hit the unoccupied pickup truck.

Police say the child was sitting in the back seat wearing a seatbelt but died of her injuries. Her mother was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries, authorities say.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating.
