Summit County, OH : Man dead after hours-long standoff in Summit County on Sunday afternoon, December 27, 2015

One man is dead after a four-hour standoff that occurred inside a Coventry Township home Sunday afternoon.

According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, Ryan Perkins, 32, of New Franklin, made threats to harm himself and his family as he walked around outside an E. State Street residence with a rifle.

When officers arrived to the scene around 3:30 p.m., Perkins was inside the residence with his wife and daughter. Three officers entered the home via bedroom window while other officers held Perkins' attention. The three officers managed to help the wife and daughter to safety.

Officers were unsuccessful in establishing communication with Perkins. At 7:40 p.m., SWAT members entered the home and found Perkins on the couch with what officers say appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Perkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
