Chico, CA : One person was hurt when a pickup collided on Friday, August 25, 2017
One person was hurt when a pickup collided with a tow truck and rolled over Friday afternoon at a busy intersection south of Chico State University, police said.
The crash happened about 3:10 p.m. at West Eighth and Ivy streets, where Caltrans is putting in traffic signals and improving sidewalks.
The driver of a silver Dodge pickup was traveling north on Ivy and apparently pulled out from a stop sign and into the path of a Brown’s Towing truck traveling west on West Eighth Street, Chico police officer Greg Rogers said.
The resulting collision caused the pickup to roll over onto a sidewalk at the northwest side of the intersection.
The driver of the pickup — only described at the scene as a man — suffered minor injuries and was taken to Enloe Medical Center by ambulance, said Jesse Alexander, division chief for the Chico Fire Department.
The driver of the tow truck was OK and did not require treatment, Alexander said.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed away.
A third uninvolved car also was hit during the crash.
Caltrans has undertaken a $3.4 million project to put in traffic signals in the area of West Eighth, West Ninth and Ivy streets, according to an article published in this newspaper in July.
The project also includes sidewalk “bulb-outs” for pedestrians and other sidewalk improvements to make them comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, a Caltrans spokesperson has said. Storm drains also are being added in the area.
Traffic is expected to be affected through September.
On Friday, an employee of Miller Glass on nearby Cherry Street said traffic signals should have been put in years ago. He said there was another accident recently in the same area.
