A vehicle that appears to have crashed along Route 422 was discovered Wednesday, but there were no signs of a driver or passengers.

Police are investigating the smashed vehicle discovered off the westbound lanes of Route 422 near the Philadelphia Premium Outlets.

“Numerous calls have been received about a vehicle found along westbound 422 near the Sanatoga exit,” said Limerick Police Chief Brian Skelton. “We responded and located the vehicle with Pennsylvania State Police and they are handling the investigation.”

Reports from the scene show a black BMW sedan being lifted from the area with a crane and loaded into a flatbed tow truck.

Police said no one was in the vehicle when it was found.

Skid marks could be seen for several hundred feet in the grassy berm but it was undetermined when the crash occurred. The vehicle was found in an area of trees and bushes, which partially hid the smashed car.

A Montgomery County Sheriff’s K-9 unit was on the scene along with a State Police corporal and a state police forensic unit Wednesday afternoon.

According to posts from the Facebook page, 422 Sucks, the vehicle was found along the westbound side of Route 422 in a wooded area near the Sanatoga exit Wednesday morning.

A post by Mario DiNardo was shared by 422 Sucks along with a photo of the vehicle. The post reads in part, “I found this car back in the woods on 422 west bound across from the outlets. I stopped and tried to look in the car but couldn’t see much. I called Limerick police to see if anyone knew about this already, they transferred me to the state police who said they’d look into it.”

The investigation is being handled by State Police at the Belmont barracks.
