Winfield,KS : Man saved after crash on April, Friday 8th 2018
An Ark City man was ejected from his truck, pinned under the vehicle and rescued by two friends after a rollover accident Friday night just north of the Oklahoma border.
Arkansas City fire/EMS and Cowley Sheriff deputies responded around 8 p.m. on U.S. 77 Highway for multiple accidents in the area as sleet and snow hit the region.
A 1964 Chevy pickup rolled at least twice before coming to rest on the driver side in the median. The driver, Lucas Myers, was partially ejected from the vehicle and pinned underneath. Jose Bedolla was in the vehicle until it came to a stop. Bedolla and another friend, Ethan Tauscher, who was following in another vehicle rescued Myers.
“I was ejected from my truck last night and pinned under the truck,” Myers wrote on his Facebook page Saturday. “These two saved my life, Jose lifted the truck up on his own while Ethan drug me out. Thank you both, many happy tears this morning.”
Bedolla said that he was a little banged up, but no open wounds.
Myers said his accident occurred as they were attempting to help someone in a black Mustang that had crashed.
Myers was transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center in serious condition. He was transferred to Wichita with four broken ribs, a fractured sternum and spine, brain hemorrhage, and a broken arm, according his post.
Myers said he is expected to make a full recovery since his surgery.
Lucas’ father, Jeff Myers, said he was at a car show in Texas when the accident occurred and they got a call.
“Then we heard someone put the phone down, and someone on the other end said, ‘Lucas don’t die on me.’ “ Jeff Myers told the CourierTraveler on Monday. “The drive home felt like it took about three weeks.”
According to his father, Lucas is doing a lot better but he is definitely feeling the pain now that he is home.
His family tried to get him to stay at hospital but Lucas said, “Either you take me home, or I’m gonna start walking.”
Jeff Myers said his son only had the truck for a few days before the accident, and the vehicle is pretty smashed.
“I’m alive and with that, I feel the best I’ve ever been,” Lucas said.
