A motorcyclist is in critical condition after crashing into a car in Salt Lake City.

Witnesses told the Utah Highway Patrol that three motorcyclists were traveling "at a high rate of speed" on northbound Interstate 15 on Saturday night, said trooper Chad Carter. About 11 p.m., at the collector ramp that splits toward 900 South and 1300 South, one of the motorcyclists tried to pass a car taking the 900 South off-ramp, Carter said.

But the motorcyclist "ended up side-swiping the car, and bouncing off to the left," Carter said. "And he slid down the 1300 South off-ramp."

The man, who is 50 years old, was taken to the University Hospital in critical condition.
